Where We're Looking: Africa's Emerging Investment Opportunities

We spend a lot of time below the headlines. Below the headlines is where the most durable businesses are quietly being built — by founders who would rather grow profitably than make the cover of a magazine.

Three patterns we look for

1. Operating maturity ahead of capital intensity

The best opportunities are businesses that have already built operating muscle on bootstrap or modest capital. They are looking for institutional capital not to find product–market fit but to scale a known engine.

2. Defensibility from execution, not just market

Sector tailwinds matter, but execution moats — distribution depth, supplier relationships, customer process integration — last longer and are harder for new entrants to replicate.

3. Founders who treat governance as a feature

We are most excited by founders who actively want the discipline of an institutional board — clean audits, structured reporting, independent directors — because they understand it compounds the value of every other thing they do.
